Iran's Younger Generation

    The article “What’s the Deal With Iran” by Patricia Smith is about Iran and their recently signed nuclear deal. The article starts off by talking about how Iran is promising the US that their nuclear program is going to be used for peaceful purposely, instead of making weapons of mass destruction. Then, the author goes on to talk about the average Iranian citizen. Iranians admire American ways. The Iranian government and its people do not necessarily feel the same way towards America.

    There is a lot of tension between the US and Iran. The Iranian government is running a large nuclear program that the claim is going to be used exclusively for peace.  However, we can’t be sure that this promise will be kept. Iran, the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and China signed an agreement to have Iran stop its nuclear program to allow inspection. The US is still trying to reach a long- term agreement. The US is offering to ease up on their sanctions that are harming Iran. President Obama is trying to use diplomacy to solve the problem of the Iranian nuclear program.

    There are a lot of issues within Iran. Power stays within certain groups. The real power is given to religious leaders. These leaders make the lives of everyday Iranians tough because they enforce strict social policies. Men and Woman aren’t legally supposed to socialize. Iranian women must veil themselves at all times in public.The government has blocked Facebook and Twitter and overall, the Iranian citizens are greatly affected by the restrictions of the Iran government.

    The Iranian citizens are completely different, and share completely different ideas then their strict rulers. Iran’s citizens admire the United States and  the American culture. In the article, “What’s the Deal With Iran”, the author wrote, “In addition, says Amir Sassani, an Iranian-American who lives in New York City, ‘the average Iranian loves everything American [and] the freedom that America represents.’ ” Iranian citizens are very fond of the US. This is different than what their leaders feel. Another way that the Iranian citizens are much different from their leaders is that they want change. Iranians are pushing back against the governments restrictions. For example, many Iranians have found ways to get past the restrictions of using Twitter and Facebook. The new generation of Iranian citizens are going against the government because they have different needs and views.

    Iran is divided by different views on life. The government wants to keep Iran the same while the younger generation wants change, they want freedom.  There is a huge gap between theses groups of Iranians. Even if Iran is corrupt, there are still many kind, innocent citizens. It is not the citizens fault, many are misunderstood, however it is the rulers who are the ones that are behind the chaos.
